How long have you been in this field? *How many clients do you have? *How many of your clients are Hearing-Nonverbal (HNV)? *PreviousNextThese questions ask about your HNV clients who use or are learning to use sign language to communicate. How many of your HNV clients are using or learning how to use sign language as at least one of their modes of communication? *Signs used can include signs from any sign language system, such as ASL, SEE, etc., homemade signs, and/or gestures. How many of your HNV clients are using or learning how to use communication boards as at least one of their modes of communication? *“Boards” indicate an object carried in one’s hand with pictures or words or other such indicators which are pressed or pointed to in order to convey communication. Unless otherwise indicated, boards can include both electronic and non-electronic communication boards. How many of the above clients use ELECTRONIC communication boards? *How many of your HNV clients are using or learning to using other methods for communication? *Please describe some of these other methods.PreviousNextThe rest of this questionaire focuses on VSACs (pronounced vuh-sacks and stands for VoiceSign Arm Coms). Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with what they are:VSACs are a patent-pending, wearable, gesture controlled AAC device which says what is signed or gestured and are created for people who can hear yet not talk. The wireless device works by associating positional arm and hand inputs with speech outputs from any spoken language and is completely customizable for each user. COMPONENTS: Users may begin with one wristband worn on either wrist. Then, they may choose to add finger bands to one or more fingers. They may also choose to add components to both hands. These components produce positional inputs. More Inputs = More Speech. TEXTILES: The textiles are lightweight bands of fabric custom made to each user’s unique measurements. Unlike bulky gloves, VSAC textiles are comfortable, breathable, have minimal seams, allow fine motor to remain unencumbered, and can be worn all day. SOFTWARE: Although technical in nature, the software is easy to understand and use because of its real-time visual feedback. It, too, is fully customizable for each user’s abilities, needs, and individual gestures. The number of positional inputs, their ranges, and associated outputs are defined by for each user. In this manner, even users with limited arm and finger movements can still produce communication. What is your initial impression of VSACs as a communication device? *FavorableAmbivalentUnimpressiveI need more information before answering.Do you suspect your HNV clients who sign could use VSACs for communication? *YesNoMaybeNot sureDo you suspect your HNV clients who use communication boards could use VSACs for communication? *YesNoMaybeNot sureDo you suspect clients who are NOT successful with sign language and communicaiton boards might be successful with VSACs? *YesNoMaybeNot sureIf you can elaborate on any of your above answers, please do so here.PreviousNextHere are some additional features of VSACs and example benefits.FEEDBACK: Visual feedback is provided throughout the software program, yet specifically in the Feedback Window where users are able to view where their hand is in relationship to inputs in real-time. BENEFITS: Enables users to learn where and how they need to move their hand(s) to produce desired outputs, while also enablling therapists to view what the user is acheiving and make adjustments to input ranges. CLUSTERS: Clusters are certain sets of inputs and outputs which are triggered without interferance from other declared inputs and outputs. For example, one cluster might have a few inputs with large ranges and another cluster may have more inputs with smaller ranges. BENEFITS: You can set up multiple clusters, each with different ranges, and easily switch back and forth between them to see which ranges users have more success with. You can also have different clusters for different clients. Additionally, users might use different cluster for different situations. For example, they might have a “Restaurant” cluster which has words or phrases geared specifically for interactions their favorite restaurant while a “Home” cluster might contain words or phrases used around the house with their family. MUSIC: The software has the ability for inputs to produce music note/chord outputs. What this means is users can move their hand(s) and trigger piano, guitar, or drum notes, to name a few of the available instruments. One of the preset clusters, which comes with the program, is called “All Space a Note” where the entire space around one’s body contains piano notes and chords. Where ever one moves their hand, music is produced. An additional music feature is the ability to trigger both music and speech simultaneously. BENEFITS: Users might get excited when they realize the movement of their hand(s) can produce music “from thin air” and have motivation to move their hands to make more music. Meanwhile, you can observe which inputs the user is most inclined to produce and tailor their speech inputs accordidngly.Do you feel like the Feedback is a useful feature? *YesNoMaybeNot sureDo you feel like the Clusters is a useful feature? *YesNoMaybeNot sureDo you feel like the Music is a useful feature? *YesNoMaybeNot sureIf you can elaborate on any of your above answers, please do so here. STATISTICS: Statistics are automatically collected during these games and stored for historical analysis which helps document user ability and progress. What is your impression of the Training Games? *FavorableAmbivalentUnimpressiveI need more information before answering. What is your impression of the Statistics? *FavorableAmbivalentUnimpressiveI need more information before answering.Do you feel like the automatic documentation and historical analysis feature (Statistics) would be useful in determining VSAC eligibility? *YesNoMaybeNot sureDo any of the other AAC devices you are aware of automatically train and/or track user ability and progress? *YesNoPlease provide some examples. *PreviousNextYou have made it to the last section! After learning more about VSACs, does your current impression of them differ from your initial impression? *YesNoPlease elaborate:On a scale of 1 – 5, how excited are you to see VSACs become available on the market? *Rate 1 out of 5Rate 2 out of 5Rate 3 out of 5Rate 4 out of 5Rate 5 out of 51 = least excitted and 5 = most excitedIf VSAC beta testing was offered, do you envision speech and language pathologist being excited and able to participate? *Please explain your answer.Do you have any questions or other comments? *YesNoPlease enter your questions and/or comments here:How long do you estimate it took for you to fill out this questionaire? *PreviousSubmit
